Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. -Martin Luther King Jr.
We cannot combat that which opposes or frustrates us with the same energy. We cannot expect love from the hate we give or compassion from the anger we bestow.
We have to be the change to the external world that we want to see. Because if someone else does not know of or understand the change we want to see, how can they be expected to give it in return? We are all teachers. And we are teaching in every moment life offers us. So, what kind of teacher do you want to be?
Could you be a teacher of love? So, when someone triggers hate or frustration within you, you demonstrate kindness.
Could you be a teacher of compassion? So, when someone triggers indifference or heartlessness within you, you demonstrate generosity.
Could you be a teacher of empathy? So, when someone ignores or is reluctant to listen to your perspective, you listen to their perspective.
We are all teachers. And we are teaching in every moment life offers us. Therefore, could we take hold of the power and influence we have over shaping our own personal worlds? Because when we become the change we want to see, we give other’s permission to do the same. And we become the way makers to love, peace, and light.
So, what kind of teacher do you want to be?
